The screen door situation is hilarious. When I moved into this place in November, the screen door had no glass or screen and was broken. I asked for a new one and he did nothing. During January, I told Robert Torkeo that a new screen door would help keep the heat in, which I would appreciate. He said he would put one on once it got "a little warmer." One night in February, he dropped off a screen door and asked if my roommate and I could store it behind our couch until it got "a little warmer." There the screen sat until May, when he finally got around to putting on the screen door. It took him four hours to install. And, since he is cheap, he bought a screen door frame, in which the screen had to be added. Four hours after he began, the screen door did not close all the way (He showed me how you could close it and get it back open again using a little "muscle") the screen did not fit inside the frame, and he had to use a random piece of wood to keep the screen from bowing. To top it off, he blamed his wife, who was there and only speaks Russian. The directions that came with the door were in French only. Naturally, I voiced my displeasure with the door, and he promised a new one - I'm still waiting. The door handle to the screen has since fallen off, and the screen has fallen out. I won't go into the rest of the house. Just know two more things: we've had three different dead bolts on the front door and we're on our second washing machine. Robert Torkeo does it himself because it's cheap. He does it poorly because he doesn't know what he's doing. And he always has a smile and an easy fix for you. He's nice slime.

The house was great and in great condition however the place wasn't insulated. The heating bill was through the roof! The landlord was friendly, returned my phone calls and did the repairs himself, which wasnt always the best, but at least they were done. He let us have dogs if we wanted. He let us use the security deposit for the last months rent. He helped us move a washer and dryer to the house to use, which was awesome. He never came over to show off the place without notice. He was a reasonable landlord and much better than the one I had before. The house had street parking, but one of the only ones in Oakland that you didn't have to pay for a parking permit. A large, but heavily overgrown back yard was nice, but not used much because it was over grown. While we were low needs as renters, we appreciated that he didn't really botehr us with anything and was reasonable. Pretty good deal with how nice the place was compared to the dumps that Oakland is notorious for having.
