Repeatedly refused to adequately fix the problems we had with the apartment- we desperately needed a replacement toilet but he was too cheap to install one, instead buying several parts for the existing toilet that failed to do the trick.
Frequently went out of the country for weeks at a time, leaving no contact info for anyone else to come help us if we needed the landlord's attention.
Nicholas also tried to get us to pay tickets HE received from the city for failing to trim our bushes. We took him to court for this issue and won.
Avoid renting from him at all costs.

Surly, unavailable, and unwilling to make repairs on the property. The electrical wiring is ancient and probably dangerous. The public areas of the property are dirty, unkempt, and generally uncared for. Additionally, he is disorganized about his record keeping and accused me of missing rent, which I had actually paid for in advance. My advice is to keep copies of all your checks/payments to him if you choose (at your own risk) to rent from him.

I rented from Nicholas without realizing that some friends of mine had previously rented from him and had major problems. Some examples:
-Refused to update wiring not up to code. There were regular electrical problems (blown fuses, etc.)
-Leak into bathroom ceiling from 2nd floor apartment for 6 months, causing ceiling tiles to collapse repeatedly. He would replace the ceiling tiles but not the leak.
-Did not fix leak until I threatened to involve the city inspector.
-Multiple other problems went unfixed, despite repeated notification.
-Would leave the country for 2-3 weeks at a time with no contact info or emergency back-ups.
