I've lived in the Wendover building for four years and had a perfectly pleasant experience. The common areas aren't kept up that well, the elevators can get and stay pretty dirty and the laundry area's washers and dryers less than ideal, but those weren't the important things for me when I rented. Minor problems like a broken mailbox and clogged drain got fixed/resolved within a day or so and the one time I had a real plumbing emergency someone was dispatched to deal with it in extremely quickly. The apartments themselves are really quiet. Mozart seems to have a bad rep online and while some of their other properties might be problematic, I never had a serious issue with this one or any problems with any of their staff.

For a building in the oakland area, this is really well maintained. The rooms are small and I can hear every word my neighbors say, but it's an old building, just like the majority of Pittsburgh. The management can be a little bit overbearing -- they have a 40-page lease supplement stating things like 'all window dressings must be white or pastel', but they never inspect that kind of minutia. I never had any maintenance requests (my shower drips the tiniest bit, but I never bothered to mention it to them), so I don't know how responsive they are. But I do know that my sink leaked behind the wall and caused water damage in the apt below, and the repairman was really friendly while he was working in my place. The heat always worked, and there was always hot water. They fumigated at least once, so I know they worry about pest control, and I didn't see any bugs except the occasional fly I let in. I've never seen any of the laundry machines out of order, either. Really, for Oakland, it's pretty super. They're in the process of showing mine right now, and I *do* receive a LOT of calls about them showing my apartment, but I would much rather receive a call than have them wander through with no warning, so I'm tolerant of that, too. Overall, if my current place weren't so tiny, I'd consider staying. I'd definitely consider renting from Mozart again, though, if I could find a decent-sized place for the right price. Unfortunately, most of their units are pretty pricey.

I am about to sign a lease on a Mozart apartment and hoped I would get some constructive feedback on here; that is not the case… First off, it is incredibly difficult to take a complaint seriously when simple words are misspelled and the grammar is terrible. Some of the complaints on here are so ridiculous that it’s hard to determine if Mozart is a bad landlord or if they just rent to needy, whiney tenants. Fluctuant water temperatures occur in every apartment I have seen in Shadyside and North Oakland. It is mandated that you must want tenants about lead when renting out apartments/houses built before a certain date. If you can’t park a car, that is not your landlord’s fault. Also, I don’t believe I have ever seen a washer and dryer for less then $1.50… Thank you to the few people who took the time to write meaningful posts.

Apartments are expensive compared to the market. Apartments are usually in good shape. They fix small problems in a few days. They even change the carpet to hardwood flooring even though they do it in 4-5 days and there is a long queue. The most annoying thing about Mozart Management is that they want to make you decide, whether to stay in the apartment in the following year or not to stay, very early (Feb 15 when lease ends in July 31st!!!). They start showing the apartment to the customers immediately without prior notice. For other regular jobs they do in your apartment, they again do not necessarily inform you prior to their visit. They knock the door and they enter your apartment without waiting 1 minute. This is really inconvenient especially for married couples.

This building is horrible. The pictures on the website are so beautiful, sunny, and pleasant. Even the people seem to be nice. However, this is because they try to fix things up, clean things, repaint things, before they know a lot of people will be seeing apartments. A few months into your lease, your apartment starts to fall apart, paint starts peeling, the hallways are starting to fall apart and you'll regret living here. This building is noisy. The walls are paper thin so you can hear your neighbor male or female urinating. If you're asleep, you'll be awoken by the flush of a toilet since its so loud or you can't fall asleep because someone has their TV on. I regret living here except for the neighborhood. The neighborhood is quiet, safe, and close to transportation and shops. But the neighborhood isn't what Mozart manages...

Do not rent with Mozart or live in the Wendover Annex. There is a huge roach problem and you'd think it would be better in the winter but these roaches never want to leave. It doesn't matter how clean you keep your apartment (I don't even eat in my apartment) because these large roaches will come in from other apartments. If you like the smell of cigarette smoke in your apartment on random days, this building is perfect for you. Mozart workers who like to check up on your apartment when you're not home will carry that stench with them. Want to do laundry? Be prepared to pay $1.50 for a wash and $1.50 for 45 minutes of drying. But the dryers don't work so you get your clothes out damp and need to fork over another $1.50 to try again. Want to park your car in the garage? Its great until stuff from the ceiling of the garage falls down onto your car, damaging it. Of course Mozart is not at fault as per the 57 paragraph lease you sign that states that you relinquish all rights. Your rent keeps going up faster than the rate of other buildings so watch out!

My bathroom ceiling caved in and it took them forever to fix...they wanted to fix it while everything was still wet but I insisted they wait until it was dry because I didn't want mold. They weren't awful with general maintenance, they'd usually come if there was a problem. My dishwasher fell out from under the counter and they replaced the entire thing. My apartment was by the elevator and they love to BLAST the classical music. Late @ night i'd be able to hear it all the way in my bedroom, and when the elevator gets stuck it makes an awful buzzing sound. Sometimes it would buzz for hours and no one would come and fix it regardless of how many times we called. People also loved to puke in/around the elevator, so that was gross and it's mainly older people and grad students who should know better...The apartment size was pretty decent and all the utilities were included. However, the staff was always rude for the most part, except the one girl in the office. It's not awful, but it wouldn't be my first recommendation. They don't really care about the tenants, but the apartments are in pretty good shape for the most part.

Sneaky and unprofessional. Possibly the rudest and most arrogant staff members at the office.

Pros: -Cheap -mostly same-day maintenance -has garage Cons: -maintenance workers are loud and rude and you can't avoid their foul language in the hallways -they come into your apartment without reason - they track mud all over your apartment and their reason for coming is to check things out -there is a huge roach problem and the roaches are enormous. there are often complaints to management and they have to spray pretty often -they don't care if cement pieces from the roof of the garage falls and damages your car - the draconian lease protects them -the building is falling apart with extensive damage from the rain -the building has poor broadcast TV and cell phone reception -they increase their rent and garage rates rapidly to create high turnaround -the exterior doors and interior doors don't work very well - some doors don't close well and some doors are missing doorknobs -you can't close your windows because the heat can't be turned off and is on full blast. -they put in cheap and energy wasting refrigerators and air-conditioners because you pay for the electric bills -there are mold problems - but they are of course protected from any health problems associated or clean up from their draconian lease that you have to sign -they require you to have BOTH of your parents co-sign your lease even though you're an adult with a 30k salary and savings -they make you either renew your lease or inform them that you won't be renewing as early as 4 months into your lease and once you say you won't be renewing, they will start showing your apartment, sometimes without your knowledge -there is smoking allowed so you are often freaked out by your neighbor's smoke alarm blaring -the garage is horrible to park in, the spaces are small and the huge pillars between each spot make it so difficult to park. I've scratched up my car several times and I see other tenants have similar scratches on the side of their cars -there is poor maintenance of the garage and poor lighting

Great apartments, plenty of quiet, same-day maintenance in most cases, it is a smoking building, but only noticeable in the hallways.

One doesnt have problems with Mozart until you are moving out. Their policy on showing apartments is draconian. I once rec'd 8 voice mails while at work re. showing my apt. One was for a 9AM Saturday moring showing. However, they are responsive to complaints and fixed everything I ever asked them to. Also, their admin staff at their office is helpful and friendly. I have mixed feelings.

Avoid Mozart at all cost! They're really nice and accommodating when they want your business and as soon as you sign the lease, they treat you like crap. This building (and I suspect all of them) has really loud classical music playing all the time in the common areas. It's so loud that you can't hold a conversation using normal tones. If you want to shout at someone when riding up the elevator, then this place is for you. I called to complain so the volume would be turned down and the asshole who answered the phone said "We can do whatever we want." The maintenance people are really loud and noisy and yell the worst language when walking through the hallway. I have a young kid and I don't need the maintenance people teaching my child to say "fuck" and "fat bitch." You can clearly hear them talking when they walk past your door, so avoiding them in the hallway is not an option. The maintenance people enter the apartments with no warning and for no reason (i.e., I didn't make a maintenance request). The only way I know they've been in my place is because they track mud across the floor. And, this building has a roach problem because it's so old and the common areas are cleaned only once a year. The office workers are incredibly rude. When I called to ask if I could break my lease a month early, and offered to find a new tenant that would sign a 13 month lease, the management office threatened to sue me for that one month's rent. When I asked what I could do to accommodate them and try to make it work, they said "You signed a lease and you have no rights under it. We can do whatever we want." The employees are complete jerks and I advise everyone to stay away.

Living with Mozart Management has without a doubt been the worst living situation I've ever experienced. The "Pennsylvania House" is falling apart. For instance, there are steel beams that have rusted through in the basement. Currently, a large portion of the building's foundation is being held up by a hodgepodge of two-by-fours and four-by-fours. This situation has existed since late February. Even write-ups from the city's building inspectors has failed to motivate them. I have no idea who my building manager is. Every time I call down to the office, I speak to a different person. This means there is never anyone at the office who is familiar with anything going on in the building. The one thing they all have in common is that they are all unfriendly and unaccomadating. There are hot water fluctuations in the shower that literally scald you right out of the shower. The appliances provided by Mozart are frequently old and useless. For instance, my refirgerator alternately freezes things solid or just turns off. One day the pitcher of filtered water I keep will be frozen solid. The next, it is lukewarm at best. I've complained several times, but to no avail. I did get a new oven after I was forced to prove to a maintenance man that the temperature gaugue on my old one was not operating properly. The oven would turn on and heat and heat and heat. The oven thermometer I bought said the temperature was over 600 degrees. I wonder if I had a smoke detector at the time if it would have gone off. There isn't one provided in the kitchen, so I don't know. The basement floods. All.The.Time. There has been two (of four) dryers and two (of four) washers that have been broken for as long as I can remember. My building houses approximately a hundred people, so this obviously presents a laundry problem. The apartment is ludicrously priced. Had I had more time to look when I first moved here, I certainly would have found something more reasonable. I would never recommend anyone live in any of Mozart's properties.

The only thing more abundant than the assholes at this Mozart property, were the mice. I lived in a corner apartment, near the hillside and had an infestation of mice for about 3 months. I was provided with mouse traps, but it was still an unsettling experience. The pipes in the building (like everything else) were old and decrepit, so taking a shower without being scalded or frozen out was not a familiar occurrence. And taking a bath was also not an option in the 50-years-of-grime-layered bathtubs. A clear indicator of Mozart's shoddy management should be in the ridiculous contract you must sign before renting: take a close look and stop to wonder why they are making you agree to not sue them for lead poisoning (from the lead paint used in the building), for burns (in the uncontrollable showers), for moving into filthy apartments (since there is no cleaning policy upon moving out)...

Expensive for what size of apartment you get. What I found creepy was they would send maintenance men unannounced to do random maintenance checks. I would come home after work and see a Mozart business card on my table with what the men had checked that day. I thought they were supposed to call first? Why would you do random checks? I was a female living by myself and one day I was in the shower when I heard a man's voice coming from the living room. I let out a scream and it was one of the maintenance men. He said sorry and then left. I couldn't wait until my lease was up.

The Parklane is a really nice building, but I am not impressed with the management company. The office staff is usually very rude- whatever happened to the customer comes first?? They charge you an arm and a leg for anything extra and the rates that the rent raises every year are too high. If you don't predict that you'll need to speak with Mozart very often and want a quiet building then the Parklane is great, but heaven forbid anything seriously go wrong in your apartment- the maintenance crew is semi-prompt, but they don't fix things properly. (or paint properly, for the matter.)

The parklane is a perfect building to stay at for great views and plenty of space. The property is the best part of Mozart. My apartment was clean and painted at my arrival. Moving in/out of this building is a hassle when multiple tenants have to use the elevator at the same time. Throughout my stay, the few times I had to call maintenance, they were rude and it seemed that my call was an inconvenience to them (especially with the roach problem). The office staff was also this way.

i love the schenley arms building. it is a wonderful apartment buildings for people looking for studios and 1 bedroom apartments. its really close to Pitt campus and also central to other pittsburgh areas. one thing, about the maintenance is that they come whenever and however they want to which can get a little annoying. but overall, they get the jobs done when you request some help. the monthly rent is acceptable. the cost there is a monthly deduction from rent if you continue to pay on time. which is a plus for people who need to budget money!
