They have never, nor will they ever, fix the roof of this building. If you walk up the stairways, you can see, quite clearly, the water damage that is destroying this building. They will quite cheerfully replaster your ceiling for you, but after a while, I gave up, and just started scraping off the paint, as it was less of a hassle than having workmen in my apartment every 6 months. I also gave up on using one of my closets (leak) and cleaning my bathtub (plaster from leak clogged the drain). If I could post pics, I would post one of the giant hunk of plaster that fell down outside of someone's apartment one day (I heard it, down the hall, in my shower). Additionally, I would say for about a year that I lived there, the building was not secure. First, they "fixed" the door by the dumpsters in such a manner that you could not physically close it. Next, they pretty much ignored the fact that the wood around the lock on the front door had rotted away, and put bandaids on it until the other half of the lock fell off. Pros would be all the hot water you could want, and snug as a bug in the winter. If you're going to rent in this building though, demand to see the actual apartment you will be renting, and check it carefully for water damage. I was on the top floor, but in the years that I lived there, almost all of the other apartments I entered had water damage on lower floors. Oh, and Tamara Kamin used to have band practice, at 11 at night, on weekdays. Band practice. She lived on a floor below me and I could hear her in the hall. I had to threaten to call the cops, after complaining to the company numerous times (and to her).

They were adequate, although they tended to skimp on the heat in the winter. Any problems I had were taken care of immediately, and nothing additional was removed from my security deposit, eventhough I obviously destroyed the carpet.

My wife and I lived on Pearl St for 3 or 4 years until we needed something bigger than the utilitarian box that was LaRose St. We never had a problem with the landlords - they were very inexpensive and the ladies in the office were so friendly. They remembered us 2 years later and gave us a glowing reference. I've since met members of the Kamin family through the Three Rivers Inline Club (www.skatepittsburgh.com) and will tell you they are great people who care a LOT about their properties and work very hard to ensure that they are not renting out slums.

It's been over a decade, but... Cosmetcially pretty and spacious but poorly insulated and therefore quite expensive to heat, and the folks I had to deal with were not always particularly friendly.
