First off, ignore the positive reviews as they are written by the owner/employees.
Like many other reviewers, I moved into a filthy apartment, received false gas bills, and was routinely lied to and ignored regarding maintenance and heating issues. The staff was shockingly unprofessional, rude, and used profanity (a lot) whenever I dealt with them.
Common areas (hallways, laundry room) were full of trash, cigarette butts, beer cans, etc. Most of the washers and dryers did not function. The front door did not lock and there was a back door with no lock. This led to neighborhood teenagers partying in the laundry room. Also, there was mice.
Many units in my building, including my own, were burglarized with no signs of forced entry, (perpetrators had keys to apartments) yet Trends Capital never changed the locks(and per the lease, would charge tenants if they changed them themselves).
The 24-hour phone answering proved useless. It routes to an answering service in Greentree that simply takes messages and faxes them to Trends Capital in the morning (where they are ignored).
The worst of my experiences was this: When I moved out, I thoroughly cleaned the apartment, and took photos (by this time I was aware of Trends Capital, LLC's reputation and practices). Yet 30 days later, I received less than half of my deposit, and a checklist citing hundreds of dollars in false claims against my security deposit. Now I have photographic evidence that shows just how deceptive Trends Capital, LLC's practices are!
I would advise anyone looking for an apartment in Pittsburgh to avoid Trends Capital, LLC, and Jason Cohen.
If you are currently renting from Trends Capital, LLC, here is a good article on how to deal with dishonest landlords (it even mentions Jason Cohen by name!):

Trends Capital, LLC owned by Jason Cohen is by far the worst leasing company in Pittsburgh.
While renting from Trends Capital, LLC, nearly all of our maintenance requests were ignored or dismissed. They sent us false gas bills for hundreds of dollars. They control the heat remotely from their office...we experienced temperatures ranging from 40 to over 100 degrees F. Once, we had to leave our apartment due to the temperature being over 100 degrees. I called their maintenance guy and he REFUSED to help.
Their own employees have admitted to me that they would NEVER rent from Trends Capital, LLC due to their terrible service. The owner, Jason Cohen is adversarial, and will yell at you if you approach him with any serious complaint.
Trends Capital employees claim that the company is making improvements, but unfortunately, these "improvements" are small, merely cosmetic additions like mulch to the outside of their building. Meanwhile they refuse to address serious issues of safety, heat, etc.
DO NOT RENT FROM TRENDS CAPITAL, LLC!

Let me start by saying I am not that picky and as long as something is decent , that is fine by me. I have not even lived in this apartment and am completely turned off. I scheduled an appointment to visit apartment and the employee was 20 minutes late. In this time, I talked with a current resident who stated “run from this place”. She said the hot water lasts for ten minutes and then you have to take an ice shower. Also, she said parking is $100 and they don’t even plow the lot. Lastly, the heat is 180 dollars in the winter, but the realtor will tell you its only like 40 bucks. When entering the main apartment entrance, the front door was broken off the hinges. After going up the dirty staircase, we entered the actual apartment. The carpet was completely stained and the walls dirty. I looked at the kitchen sink and saw it was nearly overflowing with vile fluids. Next to that was the refrigerator that was yellow and from the 60’s and it did not even have a freezer. I then walked to the other room and noticed the 6 inch balcony that you could not even fit a chair on. I then went in the bathroom and saw yet another flooded sink with a dirty band-aid floating in it. The toilet also was completely brown and nasty. Let me just say that if they are willing to show something this gross to a prospective buyer, it must be 10 times worse if you actually live there.

It is true this site needs a zero counter. There is no way a maintence man would give this company a good reviews. I know this because ive talked to all three of the guys, including the one who lived in my building, and they hated the company. The one couldnt express to me just how bad he felt for those of us living there. Especially when it came to our security deposits. He talked about Jason was anal about everything and wanted to keep all of the tenants money. Remember that paper we all filled out indicating prior problems? Well jason would tell his maintence men not to even pay attention to it and just start finding everything that was wrong. The best part even is that the local Building Inspector was at our property this morning. He also went into great detail about how Jason Cohen is a slum landlord the inspector found 2 pages of violations. The fir alrms didn't work nor did the fire extinguishers. Do not rent from this company.

Do not rent! They never fix anything and the houses are disgusting! I could sit here all day and tell you the stories about how bad they are, but I'll just keep it short. They are the worst landlords I have ever had (by a long way) and you shouldn't rent from them.
P.S. any good reviews must be written by employees because everyone I've ever spoken too has never lived in a Trends house again

Like other posters, I wish I could make the numbers lower. My problems were perhaps not quite as bad, but I would never rent from them again. Our ceiling leaked every time it rained, apartment was ugly and overpriced, maintenance people were rude and took weeks or months to respond. I would discourage anyone from renting from this company.

I wish I could give Trends negative numbers! They are so terrible! No hot water for weeks, bursting pipes, no heat for a month, cracks in walls and ceilings, over priced under maintained properties, rude employees, over billing, eviction notices for no apparent reason, faulty light fixtures, no light in bedroom, loud dripping pipes, roof leaking and falling apart, porch ca Its too bad because this house is really beautiful and they are destroying it...

I wish these ratings went to 0 so I could fully express my disdain for Jason Cohen and Trends Capital. Mold (took over 2 months for the landlord to clean up), leaking utility closet, leaking shower, car broken into twice.
I definetly do not recommend unless you are someone I hate.

I would put a "0" for all of the above grades, I did not know that Trends Capital LLC is a company created by Jason Cohen, former employee from JLB Investement LLC. Because when the landlord changed name, I was hoping for some improvement, but unfortunately it did not happen. Our apartment when through every imaginable disaster: flooding in the apartment, after supposedly the roof was fixed more flooding; the trash is not picked up; problems always remain and never get fixed, he is only interested by our money.
The worse landlord ever.

I cannot express in words my distain for this company and the people who work there. I know that I will be merely repeating the reviews of others (minus those that Jason Cohen wrote himself), but it will be theraputic for me to reflect on how truly vicious and greedy these people are and how willing they are to put their tenants comfort, sanity, and lives at risk to make a dollar. Here goes. I moved in to the 1401 Mervin avenue apartment last August with my girlfriend. The rent was reasonable, but not cheap for a 2 BR, $600 plus electric and hot water. The lies began with the first meeting. I was told that there would be a parking spot reserved for me behind the building. Since I have lived in Oakland and hate to drive around the block looking for parking spaces this was a big sell for me. I signed the lease, only to find out later that three were no reserved spaces behind the building, it was a first-come-first-serve system. I overlooked that problem. I was already busy tending to the next problem. After less than a week we had a hard rain, and since had the misfortune of renting an apartment on the top floor I found myself putting buckets under several leeks that dripped grimy, filthy, smelly, brown water. I called several times, but I only got their answering service who told me that there was nothing they could do to help since it was after hours, so it turns out that the old "Our phones answer 24 hours a day," line was BS as well. It took them a solid week to get a maintenance person to "fix," the roof. He put a "quick and dirty," coat of tar on the roof above my place that lasted for another 3 months until it started to snow and it happened all over again. Subsequent reqests were utterly ignored. As it happens I left my apartment, 1 year later, with a bowed ceiling that was still leaking water. Speaking of winter. When it got cold that "free heat," that I signed on for kicked in, and let me tell you, you get what you pay for. I had to develop a morning routine, it was so bitterly cold. I bought a space heater and turned it on the moment that I woke up and then ran to the warm shower while the bedroom heated up. After a warm shower I had to race back to my room before I froze to death and dry myself off in front of the warm heater. Most people dont like to show up to work in the morning, the prospect of warm ensured that I was never late. I am not joking about the heat. I could see my freaking breath! Beleive it or not that s not all. Nine months into the lease my stove started leaking gas. When my girlfriend started to smell it we called the gas company and it was red tagged and shut off. I notified them of the problem on a weekly basis for the next 3 months and it was FINALLY fixed a few weeks before I left the apartment. And as for a security deposit... forget it. I did not even bother trying to get one. I have a few friends who have tried and failed and I have read dozens of reviews that made it clear that you should not expect to get it back. I am going to close this little diatribe with a last thought. When I dropped my keys off to the rental office I noticed a beautiful jet black lexus sitting in front. I can only imagine that it was Jason Cohen's lexus and it infuriated me to think that he was making the payments off of my suffering. Before you rent here, ask yourself if you want to fund his next luxury car with you sweat and tears.
