Scott Real Estate owns four properties in Pittsburgh. Three of them Greg Scott bought for a dollar. His "ritzy" property building is a 100-year-old apartment building in Hazelwood (a fact he refuses to reveal in his advertising- the ad I saw the apartment in said it was in Oakland-Greenfield) he purchased for less than $30,000.
If you are considering renting from Scott you are likely drawn in by his low rent.
Surely it's not because of the dirty two room dwellings without smoke detectors or the repeated fire code violations the Fire Department found.
Renting from Scott additionally means you will be sharing an apartment with the dregs of society. Drug addicts. Child molestors (yes, there reportedly was one during my days there). A retarted man who comes out of his apartment whenever you pass by and confronts you, and other assorted crazies (including a 50-year-old woman who lived alone, insisted she was married, and repeatedly complained all the men in the building were harassing her in some way or another).
I lived in this building for five years- the product of working a job I loved for less money than I was worth. I paid my rent on time and kept my nose clean- joined community groups- and respected my fellow neighbors.
Unfortunately, towards the end of my stay there an alcoholic who lived beneath me physically attacked me one day.
Such actions were not unusual. A lady was mugged in the hallway and vagrants wandering into the building and vandalizing it were nothing uncommon.
When I asked for Scott to repremand the tenant, Scott refused- saying the alcoholic's action was warranted because "of the noise I made while climbing the stairs."
I was hardly the only longtime tenant Scott neglected or backstabbed. Another whose family had lived in the building for years was evicted for little more than a kitchen accident.
Others would take the hint and move as soon as they could.
Take it from me. If you're down on your luck or trying to save some bucks- don't be lured into living in a Scott apartment. Don't let his sheepish personality fool you. Pay the extra money and move into the next place.
Your needs will be neglected by Scott and you very well might get hurt.
REPEAT- DO NOT RENT FROM GREG SCOTT- PITTSBURGH'S WORST SLUMLORD!
