Extremely rude and unprofessional service. Failed to provide a bed for my subtenant even though the apartment was supposed to come fully furnished. I had to find a bed myself, without so much as a thank you from Glickman. I cleaned the entire apartment before moving out, and then received a nasty voicemail from Glickman saying that, "he's heard that my apartment was left a filthy mess." He then took money from my security deposit. He also failed to refund my subtenant's proper security deposit amount. A terrible person, nobody should have to deal with him.

Maintenance wise Glickman was somewhat lacking in the fact that there were major problems with the buildings phone line system. However, other than that the company overall is very agreeable and easy to work with.

They DO NOT return phone calls, they lie to you about the security deposit fees, they do not co-operate with leasers and sub-leasers when problems arise, and they are the most unfriendly landlords I've ever dealt with.

Over all bad experience with Glickman. The apartment came furnished. When I moved into this apartment there were many things that needed attention. I did submit a signed list of all damages (as required by Glickman). Response was very slow, as was maintenance. More than half of what needed fixed was not. (couches arm falling off, tables legs falling off and paint on the walls was peeling) By the end of my stay I figured that I would not be responsible for the damages and that I would receive a full refund of my deposit. I can honestly say when I left, the apartment was in the same condition as it was at my arrival. Long story short, I did not get my deposit back, only a small portion. The reason for this was that the staff at their office had lost my list of damages and there was no way to tell what was caused my me and what was there before I moved in. Their loosing paperwork was very unprofessional as was the way the situation was handled.

I am surprised at the low ratings people have given Glickman. I moved into the place in an emergency housing situation and have not found any reason to leave after almost two years. The apartment is sturdy, secure, and comfortable. Maintenance can take a while to come and actually fix what's broken, but they WILL come if you keep hounding them. When I first moved in, the door locks required a key on the inside, and they changed this when I insisted. They have remounted a broken towel rack, fixed my toilet, helped me get in the window when I locked myself out of my bedroom (whoops--I nor them have a key to that lock) and put up with my emergency call when I thought there was a dog stuck in the basement. Also, after a slight spat with my roommates over the issue of occupancy vs. rent due date, Glickman changed the due date to align with move in/out dates more closely. So, they are responsive to your needs and requests.

I was quite pleased with Glickman until it came time to move out. I found that they were very helpful and always available when needed. Maintenance was taken care of immediately when requested, and I never ran into any problems dealing with them. Even though I was only subletting one of their apartments for a couple months, I pleasantly surprised to see that they treated me like any other tenant and even knew my name when I walked into the office to pay rent each month. When it came time to move out, though, they would not return our security deposit. They claimed we were responsible for damages that we had actually cited in our damage report and kept our security deposit, despite the photo evidence that we provided at move-in showing that we did not cause said damages. In the end, though, most landlords in South Oakland do not return security deposits, and Glickman did not charge us anything over our deposit amount. I would recommend them to others living in South Oakland.
