Gary Trepod, the landlord at 309 Bailey Street, is hands down one of the worst landlords in East Lansing. First off, the actual house is a disaster. I had to go through the city of East Lansing Housing Division on two separate occasions in order for Gary to fix major housing problems. The kitchen stove was broken for the first month I lived at the residence. The lock on the backdoor of the house was ineffective for about the first month I lived there and there was mold growing everywhere in the basement. I called Gary numerous times regarding these problems, but he failed to respond to them. These issues were only resolved after contacting the East Lansing Housing Division. The most outrageous incident occurred when the kitchen ceiling literally collapsed due to a plumbing problem (that Gary knew about and refused to have fixed). Water was gradually seeping through the kitchen ceiling for a couple of months, which ultimately caused the ceiling to cave in. It took an ENTIRE TWO MONTHS to get this hole fixed. When Gary finally complied with the city of East Lansing to fix the problem, it was me, the tenant, that had to set up three separate times for the dry-wall repair man to come out to the house. That clearly was Gary’s responsibility, not mine. Lastly, I moved out of the residence exactly one month ago and have not received any information regarding my security deposit. Gary has failed to return all of my phone calls, voice mails, and e-mails regarding the whereabouts of my security deposit. This man is an untrustworthy, shady dead-beat. The only reason he gets away with leasing this place is because it is so close to campus. There are lots of great places to live in East Lansing, this however is NOT one of them. Avoid this place like the plague.
