Maintenance man, Jim, is a sexist pig who rarely answers his phone, always leaves a mess behind when he actually does come (which is usually ridiculously early in the morning) and smokes cigarettes in the basement leaving the entire house reeking of smoke. He goes into diatribes about "welfare whores" and says he will do things but never follows through. Mr. Greve is an extremely unavailable landlord who has been trying to sell the house but neglected to inform his tenants. When he finally did clue anyone into the idea that anything was going on, it was via notes he left under the door saying that in 24 hours he would be giving a tour to his investors. He proceeded to do this three times in one month without explanation and had to be confronted directly before he would explain why he was giving tours of our apartments. Most of us tenants left last year because of this nonsense. It wasn't worth renewing the lease if we might have to face the possibility of being informed at the last second that we no longer had a place to live. As I understand it, Mr. Greve is still renting in this location but god only knows for how long. As to the nuts and bolts of renting: Good luck trying to get anything fixed properly or in a timely manner. For such a lovely house you would think that the owner would put a little more effort into its care. All of the apartments have single pane windows and many of the main entrances to the apartments have doors that are entirely too small for their frames. (Making the heating bills astronomical.) The basement leaks water periodically and the dryer rarely works properly. There have been no measures taken on the landlord's part to try to make the house more energy and heat efficient. The air conditioner uses freon. Some of the electrical outlets in the apartments are shoddy at best, dangerous at worst. All in all, it's a beautiful place run by someone who clearly doesn't give half a damn about his tenants.

I lived in the same building around the same time as the previous poster, mostly unaware of what was going on though. The building is aesthetically very nice. The dryer in the basement NEVER worked, and neither did my oven (I only lived there for 6 months and don't really cook). The apartment was painted when I moved in, which was nice, but the bathroom/kitchen were pretty disgusting from previous tenants. There was also a bunch of old furniture the previous tenant left that I was told would be moved, but never was, even after I asked again a few times (I ended up just giving it away). I did get my entire security deposit back. Overall not a bad experience, but I only lived there for half of a year.
