Wouldn't give security deposit back when the apt was in better shape than when moved in. Also kept heat at 55 degrees in the Winter.

At first i didnt mind Fred, because i never saw him. His brother, who did the bulk of the interaction with me was really nice and i liked him. But Fred is an asshole, plain and simple. I had a major problem with him when i lived in pittsburgh and had to relocate to California for my job. I gave plenty of notice of this, about 4 months, to fred and asked if there was anything i need to do, i.e. try to sublet, etc. He told me no, its fine, we'll take care of it. So i thought he would. 1 week before i moved, i called him to see about dropping my key off. He told me i owed him the rest of the rent that was on my lease for the next 6 months. After refreshing his memory on the previous conversation we had about him taking care of it and me not worrying, he said he never said that and it was up to me to find a replacement for my apt, even though it said in the lease that subletting is strictly prohibited. These phone calls went back and forth and got fairly heated and i ended up just leaving to move here because i was on a timeline to start my new job transfer. Fred then continued to send me threatening letters saying he wanted paid. I offered, even though i felt it was more than i should, after consulting with a lawyer to pay the money to put an add in the post-gazette and pitt news to advertise to get a replacement. He wanted none of that and sent more threatening letters. I offered to pay part of what he said i owed him just to get him the hell away from me. He again turned it down and sent threatening letters. I finally ignored his letters and havent heard from him since. This guy is a major asshole and if i could find a way to not have anyone ever rent from him again i would. He is a terrible landlord who just tries to rape the students for all they are worth. DO NOT rent any property with anything named Deiuliis. I had another friend who had similar problems with him in the same building.

Ah, Joe and Fred DeIuliis. Let's start at the beginning. Joe and Fred will not show you a lease until you give them the security deposit. Because we were unknowing prospective tenants who had never rented before, we complied with this not knowing any better. Joe and Fred constantly lurk around their properties. My roommates and I were convinced that they were listening in on our conversations. In the lease, it states that if trash is not taken out every week, fines will be imposed. Since we were students and often out of town during holidays, trash could not have been taken out at those holiday times. Instead, we received notes taped to our front door about how trash fines are "getting higher every week". What were we to do? Later on, Joe and Fred decided to replace our old, brown bathroom floor with stick on tiles. The bathroom floor was sloped to begin with, which made laying tiles (real or not) even harder. So, there were noticeable gaps between the tiles and overall, just done poorly. Also, one day I was on my home from classes and saw Joe walk out of the front door of my apartment. I called Joe and Fred's number and left a message for someone to call me (as is the process with them. They do not answer their phone. You MUST leave a message otherwise they will not talk to you). When Fred called me back, I asked him why Joe was in our apartment today. He denied Joe being there at all. I told Fred I SAW Joe walk out of my front door. Fred still denied it. Another incident occurred when they thought we had left for the Christmas holiday. Joe and Fred's father (this 80-some year old guy) tried to walk right in our apartment! My roommate woke up to the sounds of someone putting the key in and confronted him. Because he speaks broken English, she could not understand him. Later, the roof was leaking through the apartment onto the paneled kitchen ceiling. Consequently, the panel collapsed and dirty brown water was all over the place. A huge mess to clean up! Joe and Fred offered no help or apologies for our lost food or for the cleanup. When one of my roommates smelled gas one Saturday night, Joe and Fred were nowhere to be found and did not return a phone call message. So, my roommate called the gas company. The gas company came and tagged our stove due to the equipment in the basement being faulty. Joe and Fred badmouthed our roommate right to our faces about calling Dominion Peoples. We are pretty sure they knew something was wrong and just didn't want to fix it. But, since Dominion was now aware of the problem, they had no choice but to fix it. Also, the gas was controlled by them and was never higher than 63 degrees. We were freezing all of the time. When our lease ended, we moved out and requested our security deposit, Joe and Fred made up some story about how it was our one roommate's fault for the gapping in the bathroom floor and deducted us money for that. Um hello? Joe and Fred laid the floor! How can we be responsible for their mistakes??? We also had fines for the trash. These people are SLUMLORDS! They are liars and they cheat you out of money. This may not be as bad as some other slumlords on this site, but still, do not rent from them. Consider this your warning.

Pretty much the same as what everyone else has said. They creepy around all the time, dont turn on the heat, and laugh when requesting a security deposit. We literally improved the apartment and still lost our deposit. Also the fact that you are renting does not mean that they can't show your apartment to new tenants as much as they want. Starting in november expect to have people coming through your place about twice a week. We had 2 weeks in february where there was a total of 10 hours that they were showing our place to other people. maybe that's the norm, but i didnt care for it.

The correct name of the rental; company for this slumlord is DEIULIIS RENTALS. Their buisness card says their buisness is located at 3605 Dawson Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15213 phone number (412) 683-4438. Fred DeIuliis and Joseph DeIuliis are the buisness owners. I stayed at their rental property on the 3600 block of Dawson Street and also leaased a spot in their parking lot down the street. As my lease was ending I asked Joe and Fred's father if I could park for two additional days so that I could arrange moving out. He agreed, but after the moveout I returned to pickup my car and it was speckled with paint thinner. The only logical explaination was it was one of the DeIuliis' goons that destroyed my car. If they needed the $3 of rent to cover the two days they should have asked. I have vowed to seek retribution and this in some small way, hopefully will at least prevent others from enduring the wrath of these horrible landlords. DO NOT rent any property with anything named Deiuliis. Now Fred is involved in politics- I hope those running against him research his past and realize what a poor landlord he is. Do we really want this guy representing Pittsburgh?
