I lived in one of the two ground floor apartments at this address, which was the nicest apartment in the entire building as far I was concerned, having viewed the other four before selecting mine. I digress. My troubles with the DeIullis’ began immediately upon moving in the next week; the apartment had been left beyond filthy. It looked as though it hadn’t been cleaned in over a year. The bathroom was a disaster area, the tub was so dirty it looked battleship gray with a black ring around the bottom. The toilet was just as horrible. The bathroom medicine cabinet looked like it had been picked up out of a salvage yard and the mirrored panels were both hanging sideways, half connected. Both Joe and Fred are beyond creepy when it comes to lurking. One of them was always in, near or around the building, and I heard or saw them routinely going in my neighbor’s apartment when she wasn’t home. As I was putting my AC units in the living room, Joe was out in the alley behind the building and came over and complained first that I had blacked out the window with cardboard, and second that I was putting in AC units, because it would run up the electric bill – a utility that is in its entirety MY responsibility, not his. Another example is one day in late September I had the back door open because I was scrubbing the kitchen floor with bleach, and Joe came over and popped his head in the apartment and asked me what I was doing, then complained that the heat was on and tried to close the door! Although I tried not to have the back door open that often, as Joe was always lurking in the alley and also because an old woman in the DeIullis house would always be blatantly sitting in front of her kitchen window and stare. It was creepy. A further demonstration that Fred and Joe are both absentee landlords came in October; a water line for the heating system in one of the second floor apartments sprung a leak and flooded the ceiling overnight, literally causing it to rain in my living room. I had water pouring out of two places on the ceiling, one of which was through the light fixture, thoroughly soaking just about everything in the living room in the process. I called Joe and Fred immediately upon discovering this the next morning, and was apathetically told that “someone” would be over to fix it. Several hours later, they sent one of their “maintenance” guys who did in fact stop the leak in the ceiling, but did absolutely nothing about the water damage in my apartment. The waterfall coming out of the ceiling, which filled two 32 gallon storage bins, also caused a sizeable portion of the ceiling to fall. Joe and Fred were both notified of this, yet nothing was ever done to correct it. I put masking tape over the hole in the ceiling and painted it white, I’ll be damned if I was paying for the materials to have it fixed properly when the landlords, whose sole responsibility that is, wouldn’t. Further grievances compiled over the course of the winter, when Joe and or Fred would routinely either turn the heat way down, or completely off at random. Not to mention the fact that the walkway and sidewalk leading to the building was rarely shoveled and never salted, both being listed as being the responsibility of the landlord according to the lease. I also “loved” when they started remodeling the second floor apartments and randomly shut off either the power and or water to the entire building off without prior notice or any time frame of how long the outages would last. Joe and Fred DeIullis DeIullis are apathetic slumlords, save yourself a lot of money and misery and just avoid any property owned by DeIullis Rentals.
