WOW this place was a dump. Chris takes advantage of desperate Duquesne students. He got our water bills to us late and racked up interest. Everything was disgusting in the house. I steam cleaned the carpets twice when we first moved in. There were stains all over the carpet, the walls were dirty, the kitchen and bathroom were SO OUTDATED and disgustingly dirty. There was no getting anything clean in that house no matter how hard we scrubbed. Then, he had the nerve to tell us he was "disappointed" in us and didn't want to give us any of our security deposit back. After a phone call (which takes at least 5 calls to get in touch with him) he agreed to give us some back. He charged us for everything imaginable: cleaning the carpets, kitchen, bathroom. We cleaned everything before we left. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS GUY!!!!!!! HE IS HORRIBLE!!!!!!!

This guy is a jerk of a human being. Stay away from renting his properties. He stole our security deposit and blamed it on a broken shower floor. Plain and simple he is crooked and should not be trusted

My three room mates and I rented this house for $1500 a month from him during our Junior year at Duquesne University. Bad experiences from the beginning. He said he would clean up the backyard and never did. The house was mice infested and he refused to pay for an exterminator. He refused to refund our security deposit due to the condition of the property after we left (We shampooed the carpets and cleaned the place thoroughly). He also said that we owed him rent after our lease was up. Stay away from this landlord. He will give you a headache from day one. I will never rent one of his properties again.

The first house I rented in Pittsburgh was from Chris Marcanello. It was on the Southside. $1400 for a 3 BR plus all utilities. My roommates and I didn't know how bad a deal that was! The house wasn't very clean when we moved in and it was freezing in the winter.
Story 1- When we agreed to rent the house he said he would fix the fuse box. It was beside the stove, covered by a cabinet door instead of the metal door required. When the man finally came to fix it, no one was notified. I came home from work to find the electricity was off and then a man in the dark in the kitchen holding something that to me looked dangerous. I screamed because I thought he was a creeper and was going to attack me. No, he was just there to fix the fuse box, holding a screw driver.
Story 2- After we moved out, months after I'd say.. His father and wife were calling me telling me that I owed money on the water bill. I told them to call the people that lived there we kept up on our bills and rent while we were his tenants.
I think he has more properties than he can manage. The quality of the house and the way tenants are dealt with shows it.

This guy is terrible - a total joke. I've rented many apartments from many landlords and this guy was, by far, the worst. He was constantly unavailable. I'd have to call him 10-15 times before he'd return my call at 10:00 on a Tuesday night (with the hopes I wouldn't answer I assume). I've talked with a number of people who have rented from this guy and all have similar complaints. If you're renting in the South Side of Pittsburgh - don't bother with Chris Marcanello.
