Michael King, Kings Real Estate and the Collapsing Ceilings + Bugs

So here is how my dreadful attempt to move into a Michael King owned North Oakland property began. My roommate and I entered our would-be apartment with our first wave of belongings. There was a small area inside our unit with a few stairs and a fire escape. The window leading to the escape was broken and there was a roach on the steps the size of a 50 cent piece. Despite this we continued up the stairs. Upon entry, we discovered a four foot hole in the ceiling. The brick and plaster scattered everywhere along with the dozen or so cigarette burns in the carpet was so shocking that it might have been laughable..... if it wasn't in my would be apartment. After that we proceeded into a bathroom that would have made even the most hardened trucker cringe, mold all over the ceiling, broken wall tiles, a total shit show. Our next stop was the living room. The extensive damage and cracking across the ceiling made it painfully obvious that we had chosen the wrong place to live. Flustered and upset I walked into the grimy kitchen and cracked the fridge hoping to miraculously find a cold one, I instead found an assortment of dead bugs. Repulsed, I called a family member who happens to be a lawyer, who in turn dialed Kings Real Estate. After getting the usual "we cleaned earlier this week" BS he asked to speak directly to Mr. King. He was however informed that this would be impossible since Mike was currently vacationing at the beach and could not be reached. The fact that our rent checks, payed less than two days prior, had already been cashed was the final straw I needed to elevate Michael King to the status of: “All time biggest slum lord I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with.” Fortunately my lawyer family member was able to.... negotiate with King’s crooked underlings and convince them to offer us our money back. Needless to say we accepted. One side note that I found almost as disturbing as his property is that Michael King is also employed by Howard Hanna. After seeing what a total scumbag he is, I wouldn’t buy a coffee mug from him much less a house. Whatever you do DO NOT RENT FROM KINGS REAL ESTATE, unless of course you would like to live in a filthy, bug infested property, and can live with the knowledge that at any second the ceiling could come crashing down on you, all the while scumbag owner Michael King may literally be lying under clear skies sipping cocktails likely paid for by the money you foolishly gave him.
