Jay Van De Wint

Entered apartment frequently for silly reasons, such as needing to "take measurements" for no apparent reason. Threatened to bill me for denying him and a workman entry to the apartment after he tried to gain access without properly (ie. failing to follow the law) notifying me of his intentions to do so, and I had no idea that he was planning to come in. I am a young woman who lives alone, so it was very unnerving, upsetting, and creepy to have a middle aged male landlord and a stranger (the workman) try to get into my apartment one morning just as I was getting ready to hop into the shower. Thankfully I was able to get to the door in time to stop them from coming into my suite. He did not know that I knew the law, and he deliberately misinterpreted the law and abused his position as a landlord and his knowledge of my financial situation to threaten me. When I called him out on it, he said "you were right." My apartment was also infested with mice and I had to pay a full month's rent for the three weeks that I was not able to live in the apartment. On top of this, I had spent about $100 on various mouse deterrents and traps. Perhaps I shouldn't have tried to be friendly to him when I first moved in as an attempt to join in on a community feeling that I felt he wanted to encourage with the residents and himself. My previous apartment had lacked the sense of community he seemed to want to foster, so I initially thought it would be nice to be sociable. My mistake and I know better now. Being sociable = the landlord starts to get comfortable, and when they're comfortable, they think that they can violate your rights. Thankfully he sold the building and it's now under new management. Avoid Jay Van De Wint. Seems nice at first, but should not be trusted. Phony, arrogant, self-important creep.

I can't believe this is the same guy. Are you sure? The landlord that I knew was always trying to improve on his building and made every effort to fix things quickly. I suspect that there was some miscommunication because he always followed the rules in my place.
