FYI--Ken is a good landlord, but his property on 82 Boundary St. (From the stairs at the bottom of South Bouquet, closer to Panther Hollow) sucks.
It's not the location, it's not the inside (it's really nice actually), it's the NEIGHBORS. And not the students--the adults! They have an enormous bias against college kids in the area. While my room mates and I barely ever have people over (let alone the fact that we are NEVER THERE because we're busy!), they complain about the most minor things:
1. My room mate' parents came to visit for her birthday. Her mother has a handicapped parking pass and thought she could park in a handicapped spot on the street (Residents have to sign up for those, apparently). Our next-door neighbor came storming to our house and started screaming at us because her mother parked in HIS SPOT!!! No matter how many times we apologized or tried to reason with him, we continued to be unreasonable and cranky as all Hell.
2. Our garbage cans have been stolen numerous times. Again, we are never home so this is partly our fault but why steal garbage cans when there are plenty of ipods and bikes out there? I mean come on!
3. On the subject of garbage cans, our neighbors have complained about the garbage outside. IF OUR CANS WEREN'T STOLEN, WE WOULDN'T HAVE THIS PROBLEM.
Again, this is not an attack on Ken. He is a great landlord. But this place may not be an ideal location for someone who doesn't like being a scapegoat for the rest of the rowdy college kids in Oakland.
